Spend a Week in Sunshine

-Louis Brandeis

Did you know that March 16th-22nd is Sunshine Week? The observance, organized by the American Society of News Editors and the Reporters’ Committee for Freedom of the Press, is designated as a time to educate the public about the importance of open government.

YOUR Alexandria Library is observing Sunshine with a display of materials that promote a dialogue about political transparency. Find materials that will help you understand the social and legal complexities at work in this important issue, as well as ways that access to information helped journalists and citizens to improve their communities and hold their elected officials accountable. Learn about the state and federal Freedom of Information Acts (FOIA) that keep our public institutions honest and open.

So come into the library, step into the light, and help make your community a brighter place by understanding your right to be informed.
