Extended Hours

The Alexandria Campus Library continued the popular tradition of offering extended hours during the last week of classes and final exams (Dec 3rd - Dec 16th).  This semester nearly broke the all-time record for number of students served.  Over 600 students used the library before 8.30am or after 10pm.  Once again, along with our sponsoring partners in Student Activities, the Library offered "Stress Relief" week snacks at 10pm (100 bottles of Gatorade, and over 70 cups of coffee were consumed, plus cookies, nuts, fruit snacks and candy).

Extended hours are made possible by Library staff voluntarily re-arranging their schedules to offer this much-in-demand service.

Many thanks to the early birds and night owls (staff and students alike) who continue to make this event a success.

And congratulations to everyone who successfully completed exams!  See you in Spring 2015!

Throwback Thursday at YOUR Alexandria Campus Library: Walls of Clay

YOUR Alexandria Campus Library is the keeper and promoter of a great many campus related artifacts. Some are flat and one dimensional, but items like this original clay model of the Eastern Campus represent Northern Virginia Community College’s life and evolution in color, texture, and depth. It is amazing to think of all the ways, both large and small, that our institution has changed in its nearly 50 years of existence.

If you are interested in seeing the future of the college, make sure you monitor the progress of the Alexandria Campus’ new building via the AL Campus "New" Academic Building Blog.

ACE Finals Near YOUR Alexandria Campus Library

In the words of Ringo Starr, we all get by with a little help from our friends. YOUR Alexandria Campus has no better friend than the Alexandria Center for Excellence (ACE). The ACE center is within stumbling distance of the library, and is staffed with peer tutors and friendly coordinators that can help you study, manage your time, and relieve your finals stress all free of charge. So go check out what they offer at their Finals Event.

Fast Friday: Mindless Fun for Study Addled Brains

There comes a point in every study session where not a single new piece of information can be retained.

Honor your brain’s need for respite with a little mindless comedy from YOUR Alexandria campus library. We have even done the leg work for you, and mined our feature films collection for ludicrous comedy gold.

Like the book, improved with song and dance!

We have Absolutely Everything from Absolutely Fabulous. You will absolutely love it, darling.

Funny, and with just a wee smidgen of sadness

Overflowing with lively comedy

A mashup between a comedy of manners and slapstick: primstick? slapping of manners?

"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." So take a study break.

So come in, take a break, recharge, and then hit the books again after watching these movies available to you from YOUR Alexandria Campus Library.

Throwback Thursday at YOUR Alexandria Campus: Spirit of Finals Week Past

If student newspapers are any indication, the NOVA Alexandria students of 1978 lead extremely similar lives to the those of students in 2014. Each group is ending the fall semester fretting about finals, and looking forward to the holidays beyond.

A beloved former NOVA Alexandria English professor. Can you guess who?

There are, however, some differences that can be detected in December 7th issue of the Alexandria campus student newspaper, The Collective. This edition features amazing hair and discussions of CB radio traffic. Click here to view the entire issue and travel back in time courtesy of the NOVA History Collections

Study and Snack at YOUR Alexandria Campus Library

The campus is entering into the final weeks of the semester and YOUR Alexandria Campus Library is a hub of activity with students printing out final papers, pouring over notes, and preparing for final exams. The Alexandria Campus Library, alongside other community partners, is eager to help our busy scholars by hosting late night snack and study sessions during our extended hours. Students can come into the library on the dates listed below and help themselves to brain fuel.

YOUR library staff also recommends that you check out the other stress relief events taking place across the campus to stay fresh and energized. Get organized, get kneaded, and craft your way to calm with ACE, GPS for Success, and the Student Life Office.

We wish everyone the best of luck on exams! Remember, you can always stop by the library for last minute research and citation help.
