Get to Know Your Alexandria Campus Library

The staff at the Alexandria Campus Library has used the Winter Break to make changes and improvements to our shelving and display areas in anticipation of the Spring 2014 Semester.

Circulation Librarian Paul Chapman and Reserves and Interlibrary Loan Specialist Kevin O’Hagan used the time between semesters to finish the installation of new endcaps on the library’s circulating shelves. This new slat-wall shelving creates a flexible display space that is ideal for showcasing books in our collection or as a community gallery.

Our Serials Specialist Michelle Jerney-Davis created new Library of Congress Classification signage for each aisle to further improve the usability of the updated shelving. Her signs are rich with text and images that make locating the right shelves for browsing a particular topic enjoyable and straightforward.

Chapman and Jerney-Davis have also been anticipating students’ questions by creating a series of signs and displays with a “Get to Know Your Library” theme. This campaign outlines the guidelines, components, and services of the Alexandria Campus Library for new students or students reacquainting themselves with our space.

Additionally, a display of handy writing and study skills books is up for students who want to sharpen their academic technique as they dive into their coursework. These works are available on the shelving unit at the front of the library.

Our staff is excited to welcome students back to campus. So come in, check out our updates and displays, say hello, and “Get to Know” your Alexandria Campus Library!
